Brief History of Barangay Pandayan

According to history and earlier generations, the people of San Juan (formerly Lapog) were fond of sports especially basketball. Every purok/barrio of the poblacion has its own team to represent in every basketball tournament during the town fiesta celebrations on June 24. Until later on, those purok/barrio leaders have decided to give names to their teams. Since then, each name of every basketball team has also become the name of each purok/barrio, as follows: Robinhood – now Pandayan; Eagle – now Resurreccion; Bammer – now Lira; and Fighter – now Bannuar.
At the time of Martial Law, most of the residents of Robinhood were engaged in farming, weaving, and blacksmithing (or Pagpapanday). Until the time when President Marcos has declared the renaming of barrios/puroks into barangays through Presidential Decree Nos. 86 and 557. The leaders have decided to change the name Purok Robinhood to Barangay Pandayan as a way of considering the efforts of these blacksmiths (or Pandays). These blacksmiths produce their metal products like bolos, knives, scissors, razors, scythes and other useful tools/utensils. These products were sold to nearby barangays, towns, and provinces and even exported to some countries because of its good quality.
Some of the residents of Barangay Pandayan have become member of the Sangguniang Bayan like, (the Late) Proceso A. Ochosa, Neofito Lagasca and Ellen Veronica Ochosa, at present.
Some of the leaders who ruled the barangay include: (the Late) Geronimo P. Corpuz, Eduardo C. Valledor, Ben Ramos, (the Late) Proceso A. Ochosa, (the Late) Jose C. Friala and Ricardo A. Quilala.
At present, the new and first-termer Punong Barangay of Pandayan is none other than the energetic and very active, Eng’r. Edwin B. Singzon, is also the present ABC President.
The Barangay yearly celebrates its Fiesta in the month of May, in honor of the Patron Saint of Farmers, St. Isidore.
